The Premier League resumes this weekend after what feels like the longest International break ever, does anyone really give that a toss about International footy these days anyway? With Carra and Parry both making interesting comments this week it certainly seems as if some of players prefer playing for their club sides than a trip to Spain to play a game against a ski resort (there's no easy games in International Football) or a 'packed' Millennium Stadium (was it even 20,000?!) to play Azerbaijan. The break up of the Soviet Union and Yogoslavia really has given us some mouth watering fixtures in these qualifiers. For instance, it's a little-known fact that the only team in England's group that was even a country the last time England got to the semi finals of this competition is errr...England
Now that I’ve got that off my chest in my private little chat room I’ll get on with this week’s tips. There are few interesting matches this week with decent odds, I like the look of Harrods FC at home to Bolton 5/4. Whilst I am loathe to bet on the early kick off; I never bet on Liverpool; they’ll inevitably do their usual trick of handing Man Utd a straight forward victory at Anfield anyway. In an attempt to summon some power from the Anti Mocker Gods (does it work if you call it beforehand?) (No - Tim) I’m going to tip United at 13/8 to continue their recent good form over Liverpool.Despite my recent cock up with The Crims I still think they may get a result against NZ in the final Tri Nations game on Saturday so I’d watch the odds which are
currently sitting at 15/8. But for my other bet I’m going for Man City to out-finance Chelsea at home. The win for the home side at Middle Eastlands is 7/2.Fans of Smythy’s Tips will be beside themselves to find out that I am away sunning myself next week in Mallorca and will probably struggle to post any tips next week. The weather forecast isn’t looking too good so I may pop into an internet café just to keep you all happy – I don’t know what Tim would do with himself if he had to go a week without editing this shi…stuff.
If I don’t get to a computer next week keep an eye on Tyrone in the fight for the Sam McGuire and also Uncle Sam in the Ryder Cup sitting at 9/5 and 5/4 respectively.
Smythy's Tips
3pts on United at 13/8
2pts on City at 7/2
